The first annual fourth through eighth grade Spelling Bee took place this week. Mrs. Hawkins with the help of Mrs. Sierra and Ms. Rodieck did an excellent job setting up the rules, the structure and the support for the many students who wished to participate. It was a wonderful display of the interest in competition and all the students were supportive of those who continued to remain part of the competition as some were eliminated.
I was very impressed. All of the students who participated were winners. They all tried, they all cared and they all took the chance to compete. I feel this way about the many opportunities our students have for competition. We have students who are preparing to compete in Math tournaments, science Olympiad, Academic Pentathlon, Academic Decathlon, and speech and debate. These academic competitions are not only good for the schools, they are great for the students who compete. It allows the students to learn how they fair with other schools and other students who share their interest for academic excellence.
Just as academic competition is worthwhile, so too is sports. Many of our teams make it to playoffs. They may not always win at playoffs, but they get to see what the competition is and what they need to do to improve. Our band also competed for the first time and achieved third place. It does not mean they are satisfied, but they were pleased and now know what they need to do to improve.
Competition outside the school environment is critical to really know how we stand. I am pleased with the progress we have made as we take our students to new challenges. The students feel pride and success and so do we!

Crab Feed
SAVE THE DATE: February 6, 2016 10TH Annual Tracy Learning Center Crab Feed
What an awesome event for our school! Crab, pasta, salad, bread, dessert, raffles, dancing and so much more.
This event is totally dependent on our raffle committee. Our volunteers that served on the raffle committee have children that graduated.
I am diligently searching for volunteers who can step in to this amazing committee and make our event successful.

AB2706 Health Insurance
By law, most people are now required to have health insurance or pay a penalty when they file their taxes. Through Covered California, a program from the state of California, qualified legal residents of California and their families can compare health insurance plans and enroll in the one that works best for their needs and budget. Financial assistance is available to qualifying individuals and families to help them pay for health insurance premiums. This means the federal government may pay a portion of the health insurance premium. Individuals and families may also qualify for Medi-Cal benefits.

The open-enrollment period to enroll in Covered California health insurance plans happens once a year. Next week is Parent/Teacher conferences. Meetings will be held in the TK staff room on Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 16-18th. If your scheduled time does not work, please email the teachers right away! We are excited to meet with you and discuss the progress your child is making in our classroom!
Primary Charter
Primary conferences will be held next week. Please make sure you know when you are scheduled for your Parent-Teacher Conference. The teachers are looking forward to meeting with you and discussing your students’ progress and goals. If you are unable to make your conference time, please email your child’s teachers as soon as possible. Thank you!
Look at Initial Phase students, hard at work! We are working on non-fiction writing about bats, playing grammar games, learning about the letter “s” and practicing our sight words.
Phase 1 students did a great job of presenting their animal habitats! We are so proud of the work they put into their projects. They learned so many things about so many different animals. Amazing job Phase 1 students! We are continuing our personal narrative writing. Students are having fun recalling experiences that they can write about.
Phase 2 students are wrapping up our life science unit. The group projects are coming along very well! Next week all 3 classes will share their projects with the other phase 2 classes. This project has been a great way to incorporate our SWO of Positive Cooperators! This month our 4th grade leadership students will be working on a special Veteran’s Day project. We are proud of all of our 4th grade spelling bee participants! They did an amazing job. Congratulations to the 4th grade winner…Tu Han Huynh!
Discovery Charter
SPELLING BEE: The “First Annual Tracy Learning Center Spelling Bee” was held on Thursday 11/12th. Over 60 students from grades 4 – 6 and grades 7 – 8 competed. The Champions are: Grades 4 – 6 Komal Khehra and Grades 7 – 8 Tejas Gill. Komal and Tejas will move forward to the county Spelling Bee. Students who spelled the most words correctly in their respective grade levels won a trophy as follows: 4th – Tu Han Huynh, 5th – Komal Khehra (champion), 6th – Chilam Huynh, 7th – Hannah Reyes, 8th – Tejas Gill (champion).
Mrs. Stewart, the hostess for the Spelling Bee stands Students spell words correctly to move to the next with the Spelling Bee champs and trophy winners round.
CONFERNCES – Teacher-Parent-Student conferences will be held next week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. You child received a “save the date” invitation with your conference date and time. If you are unable to make the conference time scheduled, we will mail your child’s report card home. We are looking forward to reviewing your child’s progress and sharing the wonderful learning opportunities that take place in DCS.
SWO – Students received their new DCS Collaboration rubric. This portion of the scrapbook is due by December 9th; presentations for those who complete their projects early will begin December 7th. Please ask your child to review their rubric to complete this scrapbook portion soon. If you have questions you may contact your child’s PE coach (emails are below).

College Early Start
College Early Start Program – Spring Enrollment for Delta
Parents of students who are interested in taking classes at Delta College for the Spring 2016 semester need to carefully read the important steps listed on the website at http://millenniumhscounseling.weebly.com/college-early-start.html. Please remember that students participating in the College Early Start program must follow dates and deadlines and receive prior approval to take college classes while attending high school. TLC provides reimbursement for tuition for those who have prior approval to take specific classes with proof of payment and a successful course completion with a grade of “C” or better. Textbooks and additional fees are not reimbursable.
2016 Summer at Duke
Have the summer of your life while preparing for the sophisticated, vibrant and life-altering educational experience that is college! If you are currently in grade 10 or 11, spend your summer Duke Summer College for High School Students! Get ahead this summer and earn college credit with academically-motivated students from around the world.Or you might choose to spend your summer at Duke Summer Academy for High School Students if you are currently in grades 9-12! This program for personal enrichment offers courses with a global perspective.
They will begin taking applications on December 1, 2015.

College Applications
CSU and UC College applications are due no later than Monday, November 30 at 11:59pm. If you would like your college application to be looked over by the counselors please come to the college application workshops on Mondays and Thursdays during lunch for the month of November. Please note the counselor will not look over your applications during Thanksgiving break. Also, university staff will not be available to assist you will any technical support after Wednesday, November 25th.
